We want to grow our community so more people may come to know the joy of being a disciple of Jesus Christ.
About Us
The Finnish Lutheran congregation was founded in 1964. At some point there was also another Finnish Lutheran congregation in Sydney area; however, from 2007 there has been only one Finnish congregation: the Southern Cross Finnish Lutheran congregation. It operates in a vast area, from Wollongong in the south to Blue Mountains in the west and to the Central Coast in the north.
The Southern Cross Finnish Lutheran congregation is a member of the Lutheran Church of Australia. This is the same around the globe as Finnish-speaking congregations usually are attached to local Lutheran churches. Suomi Conference was founded in the 1970s to coordinate the work among the Finnish congregations in Australia. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland also supports these congregations.
The Southern Cross congregation’s financial wellbeing rests on the goodwill and efforts of its members and their support is highly valued. If you want to join the Southern Cross Finnish Lutheran congregation please contact pastor Lassi Pappinen. We kindly ask for annual support via a donation of $50.
The Southern Cross congregation is governed by a church council comprising eight volunteer members and the pastor.
